Mendoza Campaign Calls on Daley, Chico to Release Their Full Tax Returns
Like Donald Trump, Daley and Chico are hiding who has financial leverage over them
CHICAGO, IL – Susana Mendoza’s campaign today called on Bill Daley and Gery Chico to immediately release their full tax returns so voters know where and how each has earned their income. So far, both Daley and Chico refuse to release returns that detail where they hold financial investments and who pays them.
“Just like Donald Trump, Bill Daley and Gery Chico don’t want to tell voters who has financial leverage over them. Voters deserve to know where and how Bill Daley and Gery Chico get their money. Both should release their full tax returns immediately,” Christian Slater said. “If you can’t be transparent with your own finances, how can voters expect you to be transparent with the city’s finances?”
When Chico ran for mayor in 2011, he released his tax returns and criticized his opponent, Carol Moseley Braun, for not doing so. At the time, he even said, “I think it’s about transparency … there’s nothing to hide. You pay your taxes, you pay your bills, you give it out.” The tax returns Chico released in 2011 showed he made millions of dollars from his clout practice.
Daley has taken an inconsistent position, stating that he will release his full tax returns when he is mayor—but not before. That leaves voters with no way to know where he gets a significant portion of his income from.
Susana Mendoza released her full tax returns late last year, soon after she launched her mayoral campaign to provide full transparency to voters.
