United Automobile Workers Endorse Susana Mendoza for Mayor
CHICAGO, IL — The United Automobile Workers Region 4 today endorsed Susana Mendoza for Chicago mayor, citing her strong advocacy for workers. This latest endorsement adds to the growing list of support Mendoza has earned from workers in Chicago.
“The men and women of UAW represent the best of Chicago: hard-working, dedicated and tireless. Together, we will build Chicago’s future where everyone can have a job that provides not only a good paycheck but pride in the hard-day’s work,” Susana Mendoza said during an afternoon endorsement rally at the UAW Local 551 Union Hall. “They have my commitment as mayor that I will stand up for them just as I did in the past to Bruce Rauner’s efforts to hurt workers.”
“As the daughter of a union pipe-fitter, Susana Mendoza knows the value unions bring to working families,” UAW Illinois Political Representative John Gedney said. “Susana has never forgotten her roots and has always been a tireless champion for workers in Illinois, fighting for a living wage, standing up to attacks on workers’ rights, and guaranteeing safe work environments for all. We know working families will have an ally in City Hall when Susana Mendoza is mayor.”
With more than 3,000 members right here in Chicago, many of whom build the Ford Taurus at the Chicago plant, the UAW Region 4 is an active labor organization that champions progressive causes. They are working hard to protect workers’ pensions, fighting for equality in the workplace, and advocating for trade deals that protect American workers.
In addition to today’s endorsement, Mendoza has earned the backing of the Painters District Council 14, Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers Union Administrative District Council 1 of Illinois, Illinois Nurses Association, United Food and Commercial Workers Local 1546, Chicago Federation of Musicians, Laborers’ International Union of North America (LIUNA) Chicago Laborers’ District Council, LIUNA International, and United Union of Roofers, Waterproofers and Allied Workers Local No. 11.
