Susana Mendoza Statement Calling on Gery Chico to Release His Tax Returns
CHICAGO, IL – Susana Mendoza released the following statement calling on Gery Chico to release his full tax returns following the latest story documenting the history of his pay-to-play clout firm, one of the most profitable City Hall lobbying firms, according to the Chicago Tribune.
In his last failed run for mayor, Chico released his tax returns and attacked his opponent, Carol Moseley Braun, for not doing so. At the time, he even said, “I think it’s about transparency … there’s nothing to hide. You pay your taxes, you pay your bills, you give it out.” The tax returns Chico released in 2011 showed he made millions of dollars from his clout practice.
“Lobbyist Gery Chico has gotten rich off old school politics, handing out millions in taxpayer dollars to clients of his pay-to-play clout firm and then self-financing his campaign. But he continues to dodge transparency and voter accountability by refusing to release his tax returns. Chicago can’t afford a clouted up lobbyist who will do anything he can to dodge transparency at any cost. Gery Chico must come clean with voters, release his tax returns, and let us know who is financing his campaign.”
